Athletics and Rangers Tied After April

Both Oakland and Texas have 15-10 records, but the Rangers have had the better of the A's in head-to-head match-ups.

At the beginning of the season, many "experts" predicted the AL West would be a cake-walk for the Athletics.  But when the dust cleared in April the A's and Rangers were knotted at the top of the division with a 15-10 record.  In fact, the Rangers were responsible for half of the A's 10 losses on the month.  Oakland only managed a 2-5 record against the division rivals.  If the A's are going to successfully defend their division crown they will have to do a better job against Texas.

Tim Hudson led the A's pitching staff with a 5-0 record and a 1.96 ERA. Jason Insringhausen lost his hold on the closer job and the team is now closing games by commitee. However, Jim Mecir seems to be the go to guy in most situations with 3 saves.

At the plate the A's were led by shortstop Miquel Tejada. Tejada finished the month hitting 310 with 7 homeruns and 21 RBIs. Jason Giambi only had 4 homeruns, but added 12 doubles and a 360 average to go with his 18 RBIs. Johnny Damon has been doing exactly what was expected of him, getting on base, stealing, and scoring. Damon has a 422 OBP, 8 steals, and 19 runs.
